For several years, the world has been undergoing various irresistible changes, making unfamiliarity a daily occurrence. The uncertainty of the future forces people to contemplate whether to stay or leave, only to encounter more uncertainties. The present moment is a dilemma but also a rare backdrop for creation. OCTUS has chosen this time to launch its first project by documenting creative works. They have invited several groups to create, document, and simultaneously ask: what is the distance between us and a foreign land? The pandemic has stifled countless band performances, but it has not stopped creativity. Hong Kong's underground post-rock band, Whalebone Deer, known for using post-rock rhythms and sound effects to create a sense of emptiness, has handed over a piece of music to "Hakka-Indie" singer-songwriter Wong Yu Han. He has written lyrics about "foreign lands" and sung them in the Hakka dialect, expressing the bleakness of being in a foreign land. Director Ng Ka Leung, who is also living abroad, decided to take charge of the MV story in a documentary style. He and his filming team visited different cities in the UK, going to the residences of their interviewees, including Vivek, a dancer who left India ten years ago; Matheus and Deborah, bakers from Brazil; Danson, the head of an African culture animation company; and Rahima, a Uyghur singer who has lost contact with her family. Because of this song, creators from three different places encountered four stories of foreign lands. Foreigners, walking together on this journey.
